Top picks for your summer reading list: East Coast

When I think of summer books I usually think of a cute little romance, maybe some historical fiction sprinkled in there and some cozy fantasy reads to cap it all off. To paint the scene of the books I am recommending today: just imagine you are staying a nice beach cottage on the east coast for a few weeks. The mornings are a bit foggy and you can feel the cool and salty breeze from the balcony that overlooks the beautiful ocean. With a nice warm mug of coffee, or tea of you so prefer, in your hand. You settle down with a nice book, ready for a nice, relaxing break. If this is you or you want it to be you, you should pick up these books the next time you venture out to the book store or maybe in the airport on the way to your own east coast vacation. I know I will.

The Seven Years Slip by Ashley Poston

Lovely book one puts you into the sweet, romantic tension of two lovers separated by seven years time. The main character Clementine, has always planned her life and kept her heart on a strict schedule of not getting to close though she wants to marry a decent man. When she meets a man she would fall head-over-heels for, things began to change especially when she finds out he lives seven years in the past. Whether she lets herself be doomed or realize that love is just a matter of timing is all for you to find out.

A Gentleman in Moscow by Amor Towles

I have been wanting to read this book for a while now and I actually might buy it finally. This is a book about a man (sorry, gentleman) who is deemed to be an unrepentant aristocrat by a Bolshevik tribunal is forced to live in the attic room of a grand hotel called Metropol, across the street from the Kremlin. He, being an aristocrat, has never worked a day in his life must now life in a small room amidst some of Russia’s most tumultuous times. It is definitely a beautiful, well written and witty read that is a definite add to your TBR as well as your carry on.

In Memoriam by Alice Winn

They say to not judge a book by its cover, but we all know a small part of us does judge the cover just a bit. I first spied this books cover and glanced at it because the cover looked a lot like the cover of Just by Looking at Him. The story is not that but in fact about (synopsis here): “Gaunt, half German, is busy fighting his own private battle--an all-consuming infatuation with his best friend, the glamorous, charming Ellwood--without a clue that Ellwood is pining for him in return. When Gaunt's family asks him to enlist to forestall the anti-German sentiment they face, Gaunt does so immediately, relieved to escape his overwhelming feelings for Ellwood. To Gaunt's horror, Ellwood rushes to join him at the front, and the rest of their classmates soon follow. Now death surrounds them in all its grim reality, often inches away, and no one knows who will be next.” This sounds like an emotional, beautifully devastating read and something that fits with a good foggy morning on the beach.

A Love Song For Ricki Wilde by Tia Williams

Here is the synopsis since I do not know much of the novel but it sounds like a really good read. “An epic love story one hundred years in the making…
Leap years are a strange, enchanted time. And for some, even a single February can be life-changing.
Ricki Wilde has many talents, but being a Wilde isn’t one of them. As the impulsive, artistic daughter of a powerful Atlanta dynasty, she’s the opposite of her famous socialite sisters. Where they’re long-stemmed roses, she’s a dandelion: an adorable bloom that’s actually a weed, born to float wherever the wind blows. In her bones, Ricki knows that somewhere, a different, more exciting life awaits her.
When regal nonagenarian, Ms. Della, invites her to rent the bottom floor of her Harlem brownstone, Ricki jumps at the chance for a fresh beginning. She leaves behind her family, wealth, and chaotic romantic decisions to realize her dream of opening a flower shop. And just beneath the surface of her new neighborhood, the music, stories and dazzling drama of the Harlem Renaissance still simmers.
One evening in February as the heady, curiously off-season scent of night-blooming jasmine fills the air, Ricki encounters a handsome, deeply mysterious stranger who knocks her world off balance in the most unexpected way.
Set against the backdrop of modern Harlem and Renaissance glamour, A Love Song for Ricki Wilde is a swoon-worthy love story of two passionate artists drawn to the magic, romance, and opportunity of New York, and whose lives are uniquely and irreversibly linked.

These are just a few of the books you could take on your venture to the east coast or even the west coast, Europe or India if you so choose. You could even take none of these at all though, I think you should venture to check these out during your own adventure. Just remember, a book is the perfect travel buddy. I will see you all in the east coast. Happy Reading!
